new year activation: the turning point

the solstice on december 21st is when the sun is at the highest or lowest point in the sky (depending on your hemisphere).

whether we are in the northern hemisphere – winter – where solstice marks the sun’s gradual return to strength, the triumphant return of light…

or we are in the southern hemisphere – summer – where at solstice we have the most light available to us, the light is at it’s most powerful…

the solstice is an invitation to turn inward… to tune into self, to embrace our inner light, our inner strength and power, to get to the heart of what matters.

it was once believed that the solstice was when the sun stood still – after reaching its most extreme points in the sky – before reversing direction. the solstice marks a powerful cosmic turning point – a change in direction.

and the solstice also represents the timeless dance between light and dark – expansion and contraction, balance and transition, completion and renewal.

it’s a perfect time to tune inwards and explore:

·       what no longer aligns? what is even better?

·       what do i need to let go of? what do i need to claim?

·       what door am i ready to close? what other doors are opening up for me?

·       what old story no longer serves? what new story am i ready to write?

notice: what have i been gradually working towards (gradually strengthening or choosing or stopping or releasing).

decide: or perhaps you make it more sudden and decide right now: this is the change in direction i choose for myself now.

explore: how do i make this moment an intentional turning point?

ask: show me where i am ready for a change in direction.

you might like to try a personal tarot or oracle card reading, notice what your inner voice has to say with each card:

·       one card to represent a turning point,

·       one card to represent a worn path i am leaving or finishing,

·       and one card to represent a new path i trailblaze ahead.

you might like to write down, speak out loud, or choose another way to declare:

today is an ending, a stopping point, a turning point, a change in direction, a step onto a new path. i am ending… releasing… finishing… finalising… and i am stepping through a new door now towards… i am doubling down on… i am bringing into my orbit….

you might like to use a candle to signify your ‘turning point’ intention (since the solstice is all about light)

use 2 candles. the first represents the path you are leaving or finishing, the second represents the new direction you choose for your self. you can etch a word onto each candle, if you like, that represents your intentions. between the two candles you can use salt to draw and arrow to mark the direction of change – salt is a powerful cleanser. on a piece of paper you can write down your intention for change or declare our turning point, fold this paper in the direction of change and place it over the salt. you can also include any objects that symbolise the change you are activating. as you light each candle speak to what you are changing out loud… name it, feel the emotion, allow any grief to be present alongside all the joy, anticipation, hope, and excitement you can possibly tap into. your authentic energy is the power of this symbolic moment.

missed the solstice? no problem!

the end of one year and the start of another is already a moment of change – a turning point – so even if you miss doing something intentional on the solstice, you can tune into turning point energy at any time that feels intentional to you! which date or occasion feels like a turning point? midnight on new years eve, the moment the sun rises on new year’s day, the day you take down the Christmas lights/tree, the day you go back to work after a break or if you are a parent maybe it’s the day the kids go back to school. if you can feel a sense of change – this moment is a turning point into something fresh and new – feel free to honour it!

as we come to the end of 2025, how will you honour and activate this energy of change?
