so you got some insight, now what?
insight can come from many places…
you receive a tarot reading or pull an oracle card, and it resonates
you see a post about your astrolology or the current energy and it makes so much sense
you notice something that pops up repeatedly in your newsfeed and you think: that can not be a coincidence, i am meant to get this message
you are talking with a friend, coach, or mentor and something you’ve been exploring clicks for you in a way it didn’t before
you experience an AHA, a download, a hit of inspiration, or some clarity during a meditation
you are reading a book or learning something new and are able to connect some dots in a new way
insight can include self-awareness, self-reflection, self-exploration, discernment, alignment, penetration or depth, perception, inspiration, clarity, understanding… something is IN your SIGHT. you notice it, and it means something to you.
i like to own the power of insight instead of out sourcing it. in other words, rather than saying something like: the universe sent me a message, a teacher told me, the tarot cards said… as though something outside of me offered the insight, i prefer to think that my soul self or my favourite self is the one noticing or receiving the insight – i noticed the message because it is meaningful to me, the message resonated because my soul self said: yep, this. this is worth noting.
and i am very good at collecting insight. my phone has a folder full of insight and inspiration – aka screenshots from social media, webinars, and group chats. my journal is full of pages of notes, self-reflection, self-exploration, dot-connecting, AHAs, and reminders to my self. i even have a night time practice of noticing the messages and magic i receive each day.
but it can be very easy to pat ourselves on the back for being so self-aware, so tuned in, and then go on with our lives without anything really changing.
in fact self-aware, spiritual, or ‘inner exploration’ types of people, like me, are particularly good at collecting insight while remaining stuck.
so what can we do? how do we turn insight into tangible practice? how do we go from being self-aware and stuck to practicing real transformation and change?
here’s what i’ve been trying lately:
i still journal about whatever insight i receive (whether it is spiritual, strategic, educational, intuitive, practical… as we said, insight can come in many ways!)
for example, let’s say i do a tarot card reading or i read some information about astrology or i finish up a session with a coach and think: oooof, this is a clear reminder that i need to be brave enough to push out of my comfort zone. that’s the insight.
i might journal about what situation this is referring to, what brave means to me personally, exactly what comfort zone is coming up for me at the moment, any resistance i might notice around this, etc.
and then i ask myself one simple question:
how do i put this insight into practice?
for instance:
imagine my future self BEING that kind of person… write a journal entry as though i already did it, i did indeed push out of my comfort zone and i did the brave thing!
what this does: helps our brain begin recalibrating and rewiring the identity shift, our brain accepts an imagined reality as real!
a somatic practice to build nervous system capacity… remember a time i did a brave thing before, remember the feeling in my body, remember it is familiar and it is safe to push beyond my comfort zone. notice: this is how a brave person breathes.
what this does: helps me practice my own safety, i am safe to hold this version of my story
a mindset exercise… if i was this brave version of me - if i pushed out of my comfort zone and did the thing - what would i believe to be true? what thoughts help me build that belief? what evidence proves that belief?
what this does: helps me begin practicing the mindset of my future self and collecting evidence right now.
notice my inner resistance… every struggle has a story to tell! be curious and compassionate: what part of me is struggling to be brave and what old story is this part of me working off of?
what this does: helps me to be a wise guide to my inner resistance… struggle gets to be here but doesn’t get to drive the bus, SELF gets to drive.
take aligned action… what is one thing that the brave, comfort zone pushing version of me do? even when it’s hard, especially when it’s hard. even if it’s a baby step.
what this does: transformation doesn’t come from insight, it comes from action. who we become doesn’t magically appear, it comes through a series of tiny steps and through practice.
what would you add to this list? what would be another practical action you could take to turn insight into real change?
it’s very easy to stay in the zone of insight and call it a job done. we’ll even pay practictioners to help us – psychics, readers, astrologists, coaches, counsellors, therapists, practicioners – and then we still stay stuck.
we have moments of perception, revelation, inspiration… and then the moment passes and nothing much has changed.
our subsconscious mind is so powerful that it is responsible for 95% of our behaviour! and the program that runs the subsconscious? it’s our identity story.
it’s not enough to have the insight, we must also do the real, practical work of taking that insight and turning into writing, embedding, and recalibrating a new identity story… the YOU that the insight paints the picture of.
the new workshop – becoming – offers a practical ‘how to’ of expanding our sense of self and practicing a new identity story. move from self-awareness to tangible transformation.
